The Role

The Families & Young People Services team have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Youth Connector to join Mercy Community’s team in Toowoomba. Working 36 hours per fortnight, this Fixed Term Part-Time position is part of the Youth Sexual Violence and Abuse (YSVA) initiative that will run until the 30th June 2023. Ideally the work will be arranged over three shifts, however some flexibility will be required to enable the facilitation of group sessions either during or after school hours.

You will provide a connection for young people and children exhibiting sexually reactive behaviour to counselling and therapeutic services. Working closely with Counsellors, you will also liaise with a broad network of stakeholders who participate in or impact on the success of client plans, referrals and goals.

The Youth connector will establish and maintain referral pathways for young people who may need to be linked into the sexual assault/abuse services and will also facilitate access to counselling. There will also be a focus on facilitating early intervention activities to raise awareness of youth sexual violence and abuse to promote the services available through the SACS and sexual assault services funded in the region.

To be eligible for this position you will require (Key Selection Criteria):

  • Certificate IV in Community Services.
  • Demonstrated experience developing individualised and/or family treatment plans and in conducting thorough and holistic assessments, reviewing the effectiveness of programs and plans and the ability to work with the non-offending parent, carer or family.
  • Queensland Provisional Green or Open Driver’s License.
  • Hold a positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and have the ability to obtain any other legislatively required personal history screening as required.
  • Evidence of current vaccination against whooping cough and COVID-19 or willingness to obtain prior to commencement, unless applicable exemption provided as per the relevant MC procedure.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and societies and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society together with a commitment to culturally appropriate engagement and practice.

This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $32.54 to $34.20 plus superannuation in line with level 3 of our Enterprise Agreement (dependent on qualifications and experience).
