About the role

A rare opportunity to join our organisation as a Revenue Officer (Recoveries). As the Revenue Officer (Recoveries), you will be responsible for maximising the collection of rates and charges through the monitoring of overdue rates and arrangements, maintaining regular communication with ratepayers including those in financial hardship and coordinating legal debt recovery action.

Reporting to the Coordinator Financial Accounting & Revenue, some of your duties will include:

  • To promote, approve and monitor payment arrangements and deferrals for rates and charges, including coordinating the process for direct debits and liaising with customers in Financial Hardship.
  • Issuing reminder notices and applying penalty interest and legal costs for overdue rates and charges.
  • Liaising with Council’s debt collection agency regarding rate recovery matters and authorising the instigation of legal action where necessary.
  • Providing outstanding customer service to our ratepayers.
  • Maintaining property records.
  • Providing support to the wider Financial Accounting and Revenue Team.

About you

You are an enthusiastic and organised individual who enjoys customer service and who has a high attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in work. You will be someone who has experience in liaising with customers in hardship, and customers who have been sent to debt collection. You would also have the knowledge of debt collection legal processes. To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

  • Previous experience in debt recovery and/or accounts receivable.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organise and manage your own time and workload including achieving specific outcomes within set timeframes against conflicting priorities.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Finance One, CRM, SharePoint and Open Office Property System would be advantageous.
  • Post-Secondary qualifications in a related field such as Finance, Accounting or Business would be advantageous.
  • Experience in a rating environment, Local Government or other related field would be advantageous.
