About the role

Reporting to Supervisor: School Financial Planning and Analysis, the position of School Assistant Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial responsibilities of the school commercial finance function for Sydney Catholic Schools.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Reconciliations/Journals

  • responding to school queries via ServiceNow and where necessary, processing relevant journals for corrections and submitting to Supervisor for review/approval
  • working and collaborating with both internal and external auditors (as required) to ensure requests are responded to in a timely manner
  • entering and reconciling all intra-entity transactions between central office and schools
  • schools balance sheet account review, reconciliations and follow-up
  • reporting (as required) within set timeframes


Purchasing

  • assisting the Supervisor in the preparation of the annual school budgets/forecasts
  • assisting the Supervisor in the analysis of school fee setting annually
  • assisting the Supervisor with ongoing cash analysis and the processing of operating cost top-ups
  • assisting in identifying any other areas of improvement or efficiencies
  • supporting schools in the compliance of the tax (GST), as well as procurement policies and procedures


Projects/Other

  • assisting in the gathering and interpretation/analysis of financial data as requested for various projects
  • Financial Modelling of data for key projects/initiatives
  • performing ad-hoc tasks as requested by other relevant managers within our Directorate
  • assisting in identifying any other areas of improvement or efficiencies
  • supporting other areas of the greater Finance team (when required), such as accounts receivable and accounts payable processing for school events
  • preparation of briefing papers and other internal and external resources as and when required.


About you

To be successful in this position, you must possess:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Business and/or Accounting (or studying towards a qualification)
  • advanced excel skills
  • minimum 1-2 years of financial experience in an accounts support role
  • experience in customer service and liaising with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • possess sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • CA/CPA qualified or willing to work towards becoming CA/CPA qualified or another equivalent
  • experience working with large ERP systems (such as Technology 1, SAP, Oracle, Pronto).
