Our client is a large NSW government department that provides widespread public transport services

This role sits in a corporate services finance team that supports assets: land & buildings, plant & equipment and intangibles

Role description

The role is responsible for the identification, recording, valuation, accounting, reporting and timely capitalisation of capital projects, the reconciliation and reporting of capital works in progress and to carry out revaluation and stocktake activities

Duties include:

  • Preparing reconciliations, monthly reporting
  • Contribute to the development of and implementation of policies, systems and procedures to identify, record, value, depreciate, account and report on fixed assets
  • Coordinate the consolidation of fixed asset information to enable a complete and accurate record of the identification, location and value of the agency’s fixed assets
  • Manage the coordination of the periodic revaluations of assets and ensure compliance with applicable standards and policies.
  • Implement, maintain and monitor fixed asset policies to comply with Accounting Standards and NSW Treasury policy and requirements.
  • Advise on the implementation of relevant divisional procedures, processes and reporting to ensure alignment with corporate objectives, procedures and processes in the management of asset related projects and programs.
  • Oversee the coordination, in conjunction with Finance stakeholders, of fixed asset stocktakes and revaluations.
  • Prepare the reports required to monitor and provide information on the asset performance and capital expenditure and program against plan.
  • Reconcile the Capital work in process accounts and ensure that timely capitalisation of constructed assets
  • Assist with the application of biodiversity accounting

Skills and experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years accountancy experience in an enterprise or government environment
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting and capitlisation of fixed assets
  • Experience working in SAP fixed assets module and ideally the project accounting module
  • CPA or CA certified
  • Excel skills (pivot tables etc)
  • Must be comfortable preparing financials independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
