Darebin City Council is currently looking to recruit a Chief Financial Officer to lead a team across Procurement, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Revenue Services, and Payroll. Reporting to the General Manager Governance and Engagement, this is a pivotal leadership role in the Governance and Engagement Division and in the wider organisational leadership team where you will help shape a strategic vision and inspire an organisational culture that delivers their long-term financial goals and drives organisational efficiency. It will give you accountability for managing and controlling Council’s administrative, financial and associated risk management activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the annual budget process
  • Monitoring the financial performance of the council
  • Overseeing the financial reporting elements of the Local Government Performance Reporting Framework
  • Preparing the monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for Council, EMT and the Audit Committee
  • Developing and monitoring a contemporary and innovative long-term financial plan ensuring its aligned to council’s long-term objectives
  • Leading continuous improvement projects
  • Developing financial and tax strategies

To be successful in this role you will have a relevant post graduate qualification in commerce/business and be a fully qualified CPA/CA or equivalent. You will have demonstrated experience in a senior management role in a complex organisation such as local government with the ability to understand, interpret and apply relevant Federal, State and Local legislation. You will be able to demonstrate a capacity to effectively lead and manage high performing teams as well as delivering organisational change and innovative service and business improvements. You will have a proactive approach to problem-solving, coupled with strong decision-making capability.
