About the Farm
An opportunity exists to manage our 550 cow dairy farm ‘Springfield’ at Wilmot Tasmania, 32km from Devonport. Springfield is a 355ha farm with an efficient 25 per side swing-over herringbone dairy with cup removers, various irrigation types and automatic calf feeders. The majority of the farm sits on highly fertile red soils and the 1200mm annual rainfall plus 440ML irrigation water make it ideal for pasture production. The landscape is undulating, but the majority of the milking platform is reasonably flat. Young stock are on farm.
The plan is to grow the scale of the farm operations, completing development projects during 22/23, including an extension to the dairy. The objective is to milk up to 800 cows in the 23/24 season. Now is a great time to jump on board and help grow this farm.
We are looking for an experienced farm manager with strong communication and people skills. You will be in charge of the day to day running of the farm, ensuring that industry best standards underpin everything you and your staff do. You will ideally have the following experience:
- Strong pasture management skills and knowledge, working with medium to large size herds
- Strong animal handling skills and a good knowledge of welfare practices
- Operating a herringbone dairy efficiently
- Operating pivot and linear irrigators, tractors and other farm machinery.
- Knowledge of best environmental standards
- A current Australian driver’s licence
- The right to work in Australia
The remuneration will include accommodation on farm and will otherwise depend on the skills and experience of the applicant. Once established, the owners are happy to discuss incentive based management arrangements with high performance managers.
