About the position 

Chameleon Housing is currently looking for a Permanent Part-time Housing Support Worker to join our dynamic team. The shifts include days, overnights, weekends and public holidays. 

Chameleon Housing provides a safe, caring, supportive environment within a residential setting to young people and young families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The successful candidate will work across our three programs; The Youth Share House, Young Families Program and the ground-breaking, I CaN Hope Program. About you

The successful candidate will be energetic, creative and have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a residential/housing setting or similar field, along with the following mandatory requirements:

  • Degree level qualifications preferred, however candidates with Diploma Level qualifications and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Valid Blue Card (Working with Children)
  • Current Queensland Driver License

This position would suit a student who is currently studying social work, psychology, social sciences or human services.

About Chameleon  

Chameleon Housing is a not for profit community based organization that has been operating on the Redcliffe Peninsula for over 33 years. Our accommodation service is managed by a Manager and staffed by qualified youth housing support workers, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We are primarily a youth accommodation and support service and cater for both male and female residents. Periods of stay are assessed on an as needs basis. 

Chameleon Housing also provides safe and affordable accommodation in the Redcliffe City and surrounding areas to young parenting families aged 18 to 25 years experiencing accommodation crisis and provide them with an opportunity to secure long term independent accommodation.

Chameleon Housing provides an opportunity for young people to take control of their lives in a supported strength based environment. We encourage and support young people to assess and reassess their own goals, to begin the process for a better future.


SC1  The ability to effectively support young people and young parenting families 16 to-25 years who access the service for support through effective case management practice. 

SC2  The ability to work with young people from all cultures and backgrounds.

SC3   A sound knowledge of government and community service systems   relevant to young people and a demonstrated ability to liaise with these systems.

SC4  The ability to establish good working relationships with others and to function effectively as a member of a team.

SC5  Well developed oral and written communication skills.

SC6  A working knowledge or ability to acquire one, of the Child Protection Legislation and Youth Justice Act. 

SC7  A sound understanding of a range of youth work practices, particularly in a residential setting.

SC8  The possession of a current unencumbered “C” class driver’s License. 

SC9  Possession of a Suitability Card (Blue Card) through the Commission for Children and Young People.

SC10 Possession of current CPR and First Aid Certificates

SC11 Sound computer skills in the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
