What you’ll be doing

The Nursing Unit Manager is the person appointed as the manager of the nursing and clerical service within the Shoalhaven Hospital Paediatric and Special Care Nursery units.  The prime responsibilities of this position include the day to day operational management, coordination and quality care provided by the nursing and administrative service within these units. The way in which the purpose is expressed or demonstrated will be dependent on the experience of the Nurse/ Midwifery Unit Manager, the clinical context and the geographic location of work. As the manager of the unit the purpose of the Nurse/ Midwifery Unit Manager role is to;
  • Lead, direct and coordinate patient care, at the ward/unit level.
  • Ensure the practice of nursing/midwifery is safe and efficient, while maintaining standards of care.
  • Manage the business/management processes of the ward/unit.

Model the CORE Values of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District. The Nurse Unit Manager will work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, both within Shoalhaven Hospital and across the Local Health District, to ensure coordination and optimisation of service delivery across the ISLHD. The Nurse Unit Manager will work in collaboration with the Director of Nursing & Midwifery/Operations Manager at Shoalhaven Hospital to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing services, policies and practice across Shoalhaven Hospital. The Nurse Unit Manager will participate in strategic and business planning processes related to nursing services across the ISLHD.
