Victoria’s new public Correctional Centre is approaching completion and now is the time to apply for ongoing jobs that will help shape the future operations of the facility.
Employees working in the initial stage of operations will contribute to the foundations of the new facility by participating in the development of operating processes, services and procedures. In addition, they will be part of a multi-disciplinary team committed to building a culture of continuous improvement in the workplace.
The new correctional centre will strengthen the way we work by harnessing innovative approaches and using the latest in technology to achieve improved outcomes for prisoners and the safety of the whole community.
If you have a passion for seeing others succeed and are motivated to make a positive contribution, then make the most of this unique opportunity to be part of the team at Western Plains Correctional Centre.
Prison officers at the new correctional centre have a unique opportunity to be part of the start-up team. Their contribution, prior to the facility becoming fully operational, will contribute to the ongoing operation of systems and establishment of processes. They will provide valuable insights and ideas on how the facility can operate efficiently, maximising positive outcomes for employees working at the facility and the prisoners in their care.
In the long term, prison officers maintain the safety and security of the facility, prisoners, and each other. This is achieved through searches, escorting duties, observing, and assessing prisoner behaviour, operating security equipment, collating information, preparing reports and effectively responding to prison incidents.
Prison officers equip prisoners with the skills they need to build a better future. They provide case management to prisoners including facilitating prisoner participation in work and learning programs while supporting connections with family, community groups and organisations.
Your skills and experience
You will have exceptional communication skills including the ability to actively listen and engage in respectful conversations. You will be action-oriented with a focus on being helpful, finding solutions and remaining optimistic. You will know how to negotiate effectively, understand the importance of acting with integrity and have a willingness to make a positive impact.
You will be an enthusiastic team player with an understanding of your own work style and insight into the skills you bring to the group. You will value team camaraderie, be naturally self-motivated and can hold a calming demeanour when needed.
Additionally, your life experience makes you a consistent role model who enjoys seeing others progress.
Prison Officer applicants with experience in human services, case management, criminal justice or leadership who are new to the Victorian corrections environment, will be provided with customised prison-related training and learning.
Applications close at midnight on Sunday 19 June 2022.
